Halloween Safety Tips

Halloween safety tips for parents to discuss with their children:

  • Younger children need adult supervision when trick-or-treating.
  • Never let your older children trick-or-treat alone, as there is safety in numbers.
  • If your children are old enough to trick-or-treat without a adult, plan a route and ensure they stick to it.
  • Remind your children not to enter people’s homes.  Children can collect their treats from the door.
  • Wear bright costumes, reflective strips, carry glow stick or flashlights to remain visible in the dark.
  • Vision is much better when using make-up, rather than a mask.
  • Do not wear costumes that are difficult to walk in, or can be tripped on.
  • Never accept rides from strangers!!!
  • Trick-or-treat in well populated areas with lots of people around.  Do not cut through pathways and parking lots.
  • Obey the law using crosswalks and traffic lights.  Look both ways before crossing the street.  Walk and do not run!
  • Always sort your childs candy with them before eating it!  Throw out anything that is unwrapped or looks tampered with!

Proper preparation is the key to a fun & SAFE Halloween!
