Tuesday April 22nd, 2014 is Earth Day

Earth Day is held April 22nd every year, and is the largest international environmental event.  Many cities begin their celebration a week ahead, and others have month long events educating the importance of our environment.

It was first celebrated in 1970, and is now globally coordinated by the Earth Day Network.

There are many organized events planned in all cities and communities.  We can also contribute individually.  Here are some suggestions:

  • plant trees
  • pick up roadside trash
  • properly dispose of old prescriptions by bringing them to your local pharmacy
  • use recyclable containers for lunches and snacks
  • plant wildflowers
  • try an organic vegetable garden
  • bring nature into the garden with plants that attract butterflies
  • conserve water
  • buy or make earth friendly cleaning products
  • ride your bike
  • car pool
  • hold a garage sale, donate, or reuse household items
  • reduce, reuse, recycle
  • teach children and others that every day is Earth Day

Although we set aside one day a year to celebrate earth day, the earth needs to be looked after each and every day.
